•Wild Dog•

The only dog who turned his back on mankind, never to be tamed. Running wild & free through the African Bush.

They live in packs from 10-40 plus individuals. Within the pack they have a unique social structure. The entire pack is involved in the welfare of the pups & the wounded ones. There is little aggression amongst each other. Every pack has an Alpha pair which mates for life & normally only the Alpha female gives birth to a litter of up to 16 pups.
Their appearance is unique too: they’ve got large bat-like ears, a bushy tail with a white tip that can act like a flag to keep in contact while hunting. No two wild dogs are marked the same. Each dog has got his unique color pattern. Their bat-like calls are easily recognizable in the bush.
They are among the most effective predators in the world. Due to their teamwork 80% of their hunts end successfully.

The sad part is they are the second most endangered carnivore in Africa. In South Africa, we have fewer than 550 roaming our wild spaces.
Population size is continuing to decline as a result of ongoing habitat loss, conflict with human activities, and infectious disease.

It’s an animal most of my guests don’t have on their list of animals they would like to see out here. So for me it’s always special if I get to show them to you & let you see just how amazing these animals are.

No matter how often it happens but every time you get to see the king of Africa in his natural habitat, your heart will skip a beat & you will be in awe about the raw power that stands in front of you!!! 🐾♥️
In the last bit of sunlight this handsome boy came down to the waterhole to drink. He looked up quickly as his brother approached from a nearby thicket.

Little Yoda spent Sunday afternoon in my garden waiting to be collected by his mommy. He must have fallen out the nest & as bush babies are nocturnal his/her parents most likely slept all afternoon without knowing junior was missing.

A gentle moment between the king of Africa & his son. For a male lion life is tough. Raw. And always on the frontline. To become a king, a leader of a pride & to establish a territory doesn’t come easy. He has to fight for it. Constantly. There is always the threat of intruders. Not only wanting to take over his kingdom but also his family. His queens. And if that happens the young cubs’ fate are sealed: death.
So to make sure your heirs to the throne are safe, he has to fight for & defend his legacy, walking with his head held high through the African bush.
And every now & then you catch the king relaxing with his pride and being the gentle beast enjoying life taking in the moments that make it worth fighting for! 🐾👑
